Dangerous conditions forecast as 'weather bomb' hits Scotland's coast.
A yellow "be aware" warning was issued by the Met Office for most of the UK for later on Tuesday, Wednesday and early on Thursday. For Scotlandб especially its Nothern and Western Isles, the warning has been upgraded to amber "be prepared".
Ferry and rail services in Scotland have been cancelled as gales strengthen ahead of an Atlantic storm that is due to hit the UK later. Severe winds have been forecast and see swells for parts of Scotland of up to 40 feet or 12 metres.
Schools and nurseries in the northwest of Scotland will be closed on Wednesday.
Stornoway Coastguard has warned that the sea state could become "phenomenal", the term used to describe the worst conditions.
Flood warnings have been issued for the Western Isles and also Corpach, Caol, Fort William and Glen Lyon.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has 19 flood alerts and warnings in place, particularly for coastal areas.
